Overview

The Land and Resources I&IT Cluster (LRC) is seeking a Senior GIS Systems Tester/QA Specialist to support a multi-year initiative upgrading up to 18 business-critical geospatial applications hosted on the GIS Delivery Platform (GDP). The project involves migrating Geocortex-based applications to the fully supported, next-generation VertiGIS platform, delivering like-for-like upgrades while preserving existing functionality and ensuring alignment with GO-ITS standards. The successful candidate will lead and execute comprehensive testing efforts across upgraded GIS infrastructure and applications in partnership with the Ministries of Natural Resources, Environment, Conservation and Parks, Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness, and Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice on testing strategy, test plans, selection of testing tools, and identification of resources required for testing
  • Plan and organize testing efforts for large-scale GIS systems in both GUI and non-GUI environments
  • Execute systems integration tests, specialized tests, and user acceptance testing (UAT), including stress tests
  • Develop test plans, test scripts, and test cases, and execute them against various application and infrastructure components
  • Collaborate with the testing lead, IT lead, and project team members throughout analysis, design, development, implementation, and support phases
  • Execute functional tests, non-functional tests, and system-level integration tests on upgraded VertiGIS applications
  • Support and participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) activities with business and technical stakeholders
  • Create testing strategy documentation and test data for technical and business functional validation across all phases of testing
  • Apply quality assurance principles and structured methodologies including unit, integration, load, and performance testing
  • Utilize CASE tools, automated test tools, and version control systems to support test case development and execution
  • Identify, document, and communicate defects and testing outcomes clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Contribute to meeting project milestones and deadlines within a multi-disciplinary OPS team environment
Must-Have Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience with GIS (Esri) based projects and applications including ArcMap, ArcPro SDK, File Geodatabases, ArcObjects, ArcGIS Portal, and/or ArcGIS Online
  • Experience on IT infrastructure modernization and maintenance-focused projects
  • Hands-on experience with VBA, .NET, C++, C#, and SDKs in a GIS or enterprise application context
  • Senior-level experience planning, organizing, and implementing testing efforts for large, complex systems
  • Strong knowledge of structured methodologies for the development, design, implementation, and maintenance of applications
  • Experience across all phases of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of GIS infrastructure and solution testing methods in an object-oriented environment
  • Experience with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) compliance testing and related standards
  • Experience coding automated test scripts to produce sets of automated test cases
  • Experience testing Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications
  • Knowledge and experience with at least one additional programming language
  • Experience with information retrieval packages
  • Knowledge of Information Management principles, concepts, policies, and practices
  • Experience with Public Sector multi-disciplinary teams, GO-ITS standards, and gating processes
Work Environment

This is a fully onsite role, 5 days per week. The primary work location is 300 Water Street, North Tower, Floor 4, Peterborough, Ontario, with an alternate location available at 40 St Clair Avenue West, Floor 11, Toronto, Ontario. No security clearance is required. The successful candidate is expected to work without a break in service for the duration of the contract. The role operates within a multi-disciplinary Geospatial Ontario IT Program team governed at independent, program, and corporate levels.
