Systems Testing/QA Specialist
Overview
The Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement (Health Services Cluster) is seeking a Senior Systems Testing/QA Specialist to support a critical healthcare IT project. The successful consultant will be embedded in an Agile delivery team, providing end-to-end testing expertise across functional, regression, integration, and API testing activities. This is a fully onsite role based in Toronto or Kingston, requiring a detail-oriented professional with deep experience in web application testing and healthcare data standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow a clearly defined test strategy and contribute input to the overall project test strategy
- Complete all functional, regression, integration, and direct API testing activities for web application components and reports
- Create and execute complex test plans for assigned testing areas, including ongoing maintenance of test cases and definition of entry/exit criteria
- Create and manage defects based on priority and severity using industry-standard defect tracking tools, and follow defects throughout the full testing lifecycle
- Lead and participate in regular defect review processes and provide test results reporting to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Plan and lead peer reviews of various test artefacts including test plans, test cases, and test results
- Assist with user acceptance testing (UAT), including test data creation and test execution support
- Perform database verification using SQL in an Oracle environment
- Create test data using automated test tools (e.g., SOAP UI, Swagger, Postman) to support functional and regression testing during sprints
- Participate in iteration planning sessions and assist in the analysis and definition of testing scope for each iteration
- Assist and advise the DADS IT Project Manager and IDMS Testing Lead on testing issues and scope management
Must-Have Requirements
- Demonstrated senior-level expertise in system testing, including the development of automated test scripts and the creation and execution of complex test plans across the full testing lifecycle
- Hands-on experience with functional, integration, and regression testing of web application components and reports, including direct API testing
- Experience creating and executing test plans, maintaining test cases, and defining entry/exit criteria for system testing efforts
- Proficiency with automated test data creation tools such as SOAP UI, Swagger, and/or Postman
- Experience performing database verification using SQL in an Oracle environment
- Experience creating and managing defects based on priority and severity using industry-standard defect tracking tools
- Experience assisting with user acceptance testing (UAT), including data creation and test execution
- Experience reporting test results and coordinating defect resolution throughout the testing lifecycle
- Experience leading and/or participating in defect review processes and peer reviews of test artefacts
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Knowledge of standards for healthcare data exchange, in particular Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR)
- Understanding of accessibility regulations and standards applicable to web applications
- Experience working within the Ontario Public Service (OPS) or broader public sector IT environment
- Experience assisting project managers with issues tracking and testing scope management in large-scale government projects
Work Environment
This is a fully onsite position. The consultant is expected to work 7.25 hours per calendar day, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM (excluding lunch breaks), at one of the designated OPS office locations: 222 Jarvis St (Toronto), 5700 Yonge St (Toronto), or 49 Place d'Armes (Kingston). No security clearance is required. Travel expenses are not covered under this engagement.
