Rate: $99/hour

The Software Developer – Back End (Senior) will support mainframe-based backend systems within the Labour and Transportation Cluster. The role involves detailed analysis, logical and physical design, development, testing, and integration of mainframe applications in compliance with OPS standards and Ministry policies.

Responsibilities

Perform system analysis of current logical and physical design structures.
Create detailed technical specifications aligned with OPS standards.
Develop and modify mainframe code (online, batch, workstation).
Work closely with DBA/Data Management teams to implement database changes.
Participate in JAD sessions, walkthroughs, and technical design signoffs.
Prepare test data, conduct unit testing, and support integration testing.
Analyze and remediate defects; support code retrofits and version control.
Provide status reporting and effective knowledge transfer.

Must Have Skills

Recent experience with PL/I V4.5 or higher.
Experience with IMS DB V12+ (HALDB/DEDB) using PLITDLI API.
Experience with DB2 for z/OS V11+.
Experience with z/OS V2.2+ and mainframe diagnostic/debug tools.
5+ years writing PL/I transactions processing XML and integrating with web services.
Experience with Endevor source control and mainframe batch processing.
