UX Designer
Overview
The Ministry of Treasury Board Secretariat is seeking a Senior UX Designer to join their Central Agencies Cluster in Toronto. In this fully onsite role, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering intuitive, accessible, and user-centered digital experiences across web and mobile platforms. The consultant will work closely with cross-functional teams to conduct user research, create design artifacts, and ensure digital products meet both user needs and government accessibility standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop user interfaces for digital services, applications, and online platforms that enhance usability and user satisfaction
- Plan, conduct, and analyze user research using qualitative and quantitative methods including interviews, surveys, usability testing, A/B testing, and behavioral analysis
- Create high-quality design artifacts such as wireframes, mockups, prototypes, user flows, journey maps, and sitemaps optimized for web and mobile platforms
- Apply an iterative, user-centered design approach — rapidly testing and refining solutions based on feedback, analytics, and research findings
- Translate complex user needs and business requirements into intuitive and elegant design solutions
- Ensure all digital experiences are inclusive, accessible, and compliant with AODA/WCAG standards and inclusive design principles
- Collaborate with developers, stakeholders, and business leads to support product vision and ensure alignment with project goals and timelines
- Facilitate design workshops, co-creation sessions, and stakeholder alignment meetings
- Prepare and present design artifacts, research findings, and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders
- Document design specifications and assets clearly to support development and implementation teams
- Identify usability risks, design challenges, and mitigation strategies throughout the design and research lifecycle
- Provide coaching, knowledge transfer, and guidance to project teams on UX/UI and user research best practices
Must-Have Requirements
- Proven experience in user interface design — creating effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces across web, mobile, and digital platforms
- Strong user-centered design approach with demonstrated application of iterative design practices based on user testing, feedback, and usability best practices
- Experience producing design deliverables including wireframes, mockups, prototypes, user flows, journey maps, and sitemaps for multiple device types
- Experience planning and conducting user research using both qualitative and quantitative methods (interviews, surveys, usability testing, A/B testing, behavioral analysis)
- Proficiency with industry-standard design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Miro, Adobe XD, or similar
- Strong understanding of web and mobile development technologies and their constraints as they relate to interface design
- Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design standards including WCAG and AODA
- Experience analyzing analytics, user feedback, and research findings to continuously improve digital products
- Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams using Agile methodologies and tools
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities while delivering within tight timelines
- Portfolio demonstrating UX/UI design work (must be included as a URL on the resume or as an attachment)
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience working within Ontario Public Sector or government digital service environments
- Familiarity with Ontario Digital Service standards and government UX frameworks
- Experience facilitating co-design and participatory research sessions with diverse stakeholder groups
- Experience providing UX/UI advisory input on Statements of Work (SOW) and project planning documents
Work Environment
This is a fully onsite position based at 222 Jarvis St., Toronto, five days per week. The role requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) security clearance. The consultant will work within an Agile, multidisciplinary team environment and may be required to present to senior management and stakeholders. No travel expenses are reimbursed.
